Pay Schedule Adjustments for Holidays

When a holiday falls on a regularly scheduled workday, federal employees are either granted a paid day off or receive holiday pay. If a holiday falls on a non-workday (e.g., Saturday or Sunday), the holiday is observed on the following Monday.

For example, in 2025, Independence Day (July 4) falls on a Friday. Federal employees who would normally work on Friday will receive a paid day off. Those who would normally work on Monday (July 7) will have their holiday observed on Monday, July 7.
